PALILA / WOULD
Other bands go into a studio together to record an album. For this record,
we more or less did it the other way around.
For our first album Rock’n’Roll Sadness we were all in the studio together. For the second album we were at least partly recording together from time to time. Album number three, however, was made in a completely different way.
It started with pre-production in my home studio. After that, Sascha went to Hertzwerk Studio to record the drums together with Olman Wiebe. Christoph recorded the bass at home, and I re-recorded guitars and added vocals and backing vocals at my place.
So we were rarely in the studio together as a full band while making this album, but luckily you can’t really hear that on the record. Because of that, it was important for us to celebrate the release with a concert at the studio, so we could at least stand there together once and play the album in the place where it was finished.
Of course we were still at the studio together from time to time to discuss arrangements, record backing vocals, percussion and small details. The final mixing was done by Olman at the studio and I spent quite a bit of time there during that phase and helped here and there. I actually had plenty of time because I had broken my metatarsal and couldn’t really walk for a while, so I ended up sitting in the studio quite a lot while the album was being mixed.
Luckily my foot had healed again by mid-November, just in time for us to play the Rolling Stone Beach Festival, which turned out to be a really memorable show. The place was packed and the atmosphere was great.
