PALILA / WOULD
We jump back to the year 2017: the Bird EP was released.
Kai, Dennis and I spent a very long time working on these songs.
Back then everything was still quite new for us. We were rehearsing a lot,
recording a lot, playing band contests, organizing shows and slowly
figuring out how this whole band thing actually works.
We recorded the EP over a long period of time and worked very detailed on the songs. Sometimes maybe a bit too detailed, but we learned a lot during that process and it was the first release I was really proud of.
Around that time I also recorded an acoustic version of one of our songs together with Sebi, who played lapsteel on that session. The funny thing is that Sebi is now playing lapsteel in the current WOULD live band, so in a way this whole story connects again. He was also the person who taught me how to play guitar back in 1998, so he has been part of this whole music thing from the very beginning.
We were huge Motorpsycho fans at the time, so we tried to get in touch with Stickman Records. It didn’t lead to a record deal, but Rolf from Stickman was very supportive and helped us get in touch with Visions magazine. The EP was later featured there as Demo of the Month, which meant a lot to us at the time.
It was a pretty wild time in general, which you can probably see in some of the photos. One of our highlights was a show at Rock Café — mainly because it turned into a very long and very wild night that none of us really forgot.
A small fun fact: On the cover you can actually see my brother Robert and me. So this is basically the first promo photo of what many years later would become ROTZE.
Looking back now, this EP was probably where many later things more or less started.
